"Thoughts of a Street Lamp" by Anonymous
I light the way,
I’m the reason the night glows;
not many take notice,
but I carry them home.
They need me more than they think.
On drunken nights, they’d lose their way;
In their oblivious state they don’t see me.
But I am here, I am bright.
Dusk would swallow them.
All without me.
Night falls and I am at my brightest,
beaming down, saving cars from collisions.
But there are places I am not.
Those places are dark,
frightening, spine-chilling, hair-raising.
Those places where I am not.
They need me.
I light the way.
