Poetry

The following works are the collection of poems written by students at CVHS.

"I Am From"- Aaliya Martin

I am from my drawings, acrylic paint and coconut oil. I am from persistent, adventurous compassion that feels like and explosion of color and pure creativity...

"I'm So Very Sorry" by Sharma Menard

I went walking in the Emerald Forest

It had just rained, but the surrounding fields

Still remain dead.

The evergreens, some Spruce,

And the solemn nights of noise in Regal mountains

Heavy with the burdens they carry,

But not without centuries of nature's wisdom.

...

"I Am From" by Jackie Hill

I am from playgrounds in the park, from throwing frisbees in the front yard,

I am from the boring house in the neighborhood, no decorations, simple colors.

I am from throwing rocks at ice on cold winter days,

And climbing trees behind the house, playing in the stream at the park, shallow and cold.

I’m from waking up early on Christmas morning, and from being busy and not at the same time.

From brothers asking to play games and running around in the yard for hours,

I am from falling off bikes and coming homes with scrapes and bruises....

"Perspective" by Jordan Holmes

The place I’m in is open from 10 AM to 10 PM.

I get looks, after looks, after looks.

some are good,

some are harsh, some say stuff,

And some just judge....

"Crescent" by Lucy Myers

Untouchable and dark.

As it is my love, the sun’s turn to sleep.

My glowing silhouette floats

In the starry night sky.

...

"I Am From" by Dante Ellis

I am from waking up bright and early on Saturday mornings,

And from devouring loads of Cocoa Pebbles while watching

My favorite cartoon, Courage the Cowardly Dog save his owners

From terrifying monstrous creatures....

"I'm Stuck" by Zackery Potter

            I’m stuck

I’m here in the middle

A place away from the bad

A place away from the good

            But, a place for change...

"Colorful Life" by April Peles

I am from a life filled with many colors,

From the I am from my energetic black and white dog named Bernie,

From the orange, blue, and yellow rings he chews on...

"Peace Sign" by Noah Wierzbicky

Peace Sign

Ruby Red in nature,

Stature born of love -

Rise high,

Symbolic of autonomous will.

Sapphire pools bleed forth

From the carapace of a dying planet.

This slumbering demigod

Scarred by civil war,

Corrupted by hearts of tainted scorn...

"Human" by Siez Coleman

What makes us human?

Is it our ability to feel complex emotions

we search for deeper meaning in everything,

to the point that we over think

Which is not a bad thing...
