"Dinner in the Rain" by Mr. DiPerna
Monotonous deluge
Will the rains ever cease?
Curious, relentless
Finding every crease
Slinking and sinking
Traversing the divide
Eager to see
What the earth holds inside
She sifts and She filters
Leaving sludge row by row
Like rungs of a ladder
Toward the table below
“Reservation for two?”
The host smugly inquires
It’s everyone and you tonight
Dining in muck and in the mire
But the worms on the walls
Hear a discussion not sour
No cynicism, no gloom
No fear of the 25th hour
For the ascension, the cycle
Will surely continue
As the inevitable rains
Have more promise to imbue
